TRITRIADIC CHIMES - BELLS IN JUST INTONATION
In memory of the poet/painter James Gleeson, we are pleased to announce
the opening of the Gleeson Memorial Chapel of Anaphoria and
the permanent installation of TRIADIC CHIMES as a continuous presence.
We look forward to hearing the chimes' unique signal every hour

"TRITRIADIC CHIMES - BELLS IN JUST INTONATION is
a set of 12 short pieces that were originally designed to function
as chimes that ring on the hour from a bell tower. The work explores
experimental tunings called tritriadic scales which have been developed
by American tuning theorist John Chalmers. The pieces are realised
using bell timbres synthesised in Csound. These timbres are based on
the harmonic spectra of actual bells such as a tuned carillon bell and
an East Asian barrel profile bell; several virtual bells that are not
based on specific cultural models were also designed. The interaction
between tuning and timbre provides the motivation for the work. With
this presentation in Anaphoria, the original vision to have these bells
sounding from a tower have been realised."
